A New Hockey Mom Sheriff is in Town

I was interested to see what Sarah Palin was going to say last night. While I missed some of the best lines of the night walking the dogs, I think she proved herself to be a formidable force in the McCain campaign. I chuckled out loud a few times and thought she made some good points.

Unfortunately, some of her good points could be pointed directly back at her. Especially her criticism of Obama as a person who doesn't have the experience to lead.

What did everyone else think? Did you like her or her ideas better?

Sarah's been my gal for two months now. I've been talking her up like crazy for a long time ... just ask my wife. So maybe I'm biased. But...

That speech was a friggin' home run. This is why the Dems have come out so hard against her. They have to, as Peggy Noonan wrote, kill her, and kill her quick. Because not only is she a disarming, natural speaker, using the sort of cheer and humor that's foreign to Barack while delivering devastating putdowns, but her personal story resonates with far more people.

As for experience, I've never been tied up in that argument against Barack; I'm a small-government, pro-business libertarian who's opposed to him because he's a redistributionist to his core, and his policies will make it difficult for the most productive members of society (he calls them "the rich," I call them "business owners") to create jobs and keep our historically low unemployment rate down. Barack wants to change the world. I just want lawmakers to leave us alone.

But if we are going to compare, Sarah simply has more relevant experience than Barack, because she's actually run something, and achieved her success by taking principled stands at personal cost. And she's running for VP, not the top spot. Again, I don't fault Barack for lack of Beltway experience; that can be a virtue in Washington. But let's be fair here.

Anyway, that was long-winded. Needless to say, I adore Sarah, and I went to bed happy last night. It's like having Reagan back. So keep flinging the crap, everyone. She can handle herself just fine.

Sarah has no comment on the Iraq War. She has no energy policy experience other than her ties to BP. She has no economic experience to get us back on track. She will not bring affordable healthcare.

She is purely a destructive force.

You may like her one liners Joe, but our nation is facing serious problems. One liners don't sit well with me.

Looks like Palin does not believe in free speech. She tried to ban certain library books when she was Mayor.

How wonderfully Orwellian!

Dems are coming out hard against her because she is dangerous.

Jonathan,

I thought I was reasonable in my comments as to why I prefer McCain-Palin to Obama-Biden, and that's my love for free markets over socialism. Period. I'm an issues guy, and my admiration for the ticket has very little to do with one-liners, as welcome as they might be, particularly against the humorless Obama.

Again, Obama cannot win the experience argument. Where is HIS experience in energy policy, foreign policy, or economics? And if we're going to delve into the past, let's talk about Rezko and Ayers, and discuss whose skeletons are scarier.

Yeah, I know our nation faces serious problems. We will agree to disagree on who will best tackle them; I have close friends on both sides, and I respect them, as I respect your take. But as a serious thinker on political issues, I will say that to boil my argument down to "liking her one-liners" is a little irksome.

Joe,

Have you seen this interview?

Palin is a total joke. I have no respect for you candidate because she cannot even articulate a simple argument, and has NO experience credentials for the vice presidency.
